Cancun’s popular Underwater Museum is adding 60 new sculptures to its labyrinth of eerie, submerged sculptures, completing the museum’s latest installation.

The 60 new life-size cement castings will join the museum’s existing underwater masterpieces spread across the seabed for snorkelers and divers to explore, leaving the site with over 400 castings. The attraction has nearly 750,000 visitors every year since its creation in 2010.

The museum provides a great home for marine creatures and many of the sculptures note the fragility of the ocean environment, the dangers of over-fishing, and the beauty under the sea. Each sculpture is made of marine-grade clay that encourages coral reef growth.

The museum also offers eco-conscious travelers a beautiful alternative to exploring the nearby Manchones reef. This reef has been highly taxed by tourism and hurricanes--the sculptures often draw visitors away from the endangered sight, giving it a chance to recover.
